11+ Music Aptitude Test Coaching
South West Herts
One-to-One Support to Help Your Child Prepare with Confidence
For schools including: Watford Grammar, Parmiter’s, Rickmansworth, Queens', Croxley Danes, and Bushey Meads
Helping your child prepare for the 11+ music aptitude test?
I offer focused, one-off online coaching sessions designed to support children sitting the South West Hertfordshire Consortium test (used by schools including Watford Grammar, Parmiter’s, Rickmansworth, Queens', Croxley Danes, and Bushey Meads).
This is the exact process I followed with my own son. He passed the test and secured a place at his first-choice school. Now I’m helping other families do the same.
The music aptitude test (MAT) is very random and nothing like anything I have seen as a musician or educator.
If I found it confusing, I can only imagine how perplexing it can be for non-musicians trying to support their children. But passing the first round will give your child a real competitive advantage when it comes to schools.
This is especially true if you live outside of a catchment area or if there is no older sibling.
Helping my son through this test reminded me how valuable music can be not just for exams, but for confidence and growth.
What You Get in a Session
60-minute one-to-one Zoom session
A clear overview of the test format (pitch, rhythm, texture, and melody)
Strategies for each section
Calm, practical tips to build focus and reduce nerves
Q&A time for parents at the end
Parents are encouraged to attend. Even if you’re not musical, understanding how the test works and what strategies help most will give you the tools to support your child’s prep more effectively.
These sessions are ideal if you're preparing for the music test but don’t want a long-term tutor.
They’re especially useful if your child is already musical and needs help understanding the test and what to expect. Music teachers often shy away from teaching this stuff and I can understand why!
